Triangle AMA logoWant to help your career in marketing in the Raleigh area? Smart marketers know that volunteering with a trade association is a great way to do that.

As Triangle AMA’s incoming VP of Programming, I’m currently recruiting two people to join my team on the 2014-2015 board:

  • Director of Social Programs [UPDATE: Position no longer available]
  • Director of SIGs (Special Interest Groups) [UPDATE: Position no longer available]

You’d be part of the six-person Programming team—working with me, Director of Programming Lera Germaine Montminy (who’ll oversee our 10 monthly luncheons), Director of SIGs Amber Landis (who’ll oversee our 6 special interest groups), Director of Social Programs Jennifer Wright (who’ll oversee 5 annual social programs), Director of Speaker Recruitment Chris Moody (who brings in high-profile speakers), and Director of Training Jennifer Abraczinskas (who’ll run fall and spring training events). We’ve got a great team so far—join us!

Two Opportunities: Special Interest Groups & Social Programs

We have two Director openings, involving a 13-month commitment (from June 2014 to June 2015).

Director of Social Programs [POSITION IS NOW FILLED]

  • UPDATE from May 2014: This role is now filled, by Jennifer Wright.
  • Summary: This director coordinates our social programs, including after-hours events such as our annual volunteer appreciation reception, our “CMO After Hours” event for senior marketers, and the concert during the High 5 conference.
  • What: This is a mix of creativity (coming up with fun events and venues), organization (planning the events), and influence (coordinating volunteers, vendors, and attendees). The director has responsibility for programming, budget, logistics, and more. They’ll also create event messaging, for execution by Triangle AMA’s Communications team.
  • Perfect for: Someone who wants to use their event planning skills to organize fun events that engage members and non-members.
  • Time commitment: Expect 3-4 hours/month (monthly board meetings, bimonthly team meetings, and ad hoc calls and emails), plus 10-30 hours before and during major events. You’d also attend the 2014-2015 planning retreat on Sunday, June 8, 2014 (1-6pm in Raleigh).

Director of SIGs (Special Interest Groups) [POSITION IS NOW FILLED]

  • UPDATE from May 2014: This role is now filled, by Amber Landis.
  • Summary: This director oversees our Special Interest Group (SIG) program, which helps Triangle AMA provide targeted content to marketers around 6 topic areas (Content Marketing, Digital Marketing & Analytics, Healthcare, Higher Ed, Marketing Automation, and Social Media).
  • What: The role is a mix of volunteer management (as the main point of contact for the six SIG leaders), coaching (helping SIG leaders grow attendance), reporting (coordinating registration and attendance data for monthly tracking), and screening (speaking with people who’d like to sponsor a new SIG).
  • Perfect for: Someone who wants to build relationships with people across multiple companies, but who doesn’t necessarily want to be on-the-ground at every meeting.
  • Time commitment: Expect 6-8 hours/month (monthly board meeting, bimonthly team meeting, coordinating attendance and registration lists with SIG leaders, occasional support calls with SIG leaders, answering emails to sig (at) triangleama.org, sharing SIG topics with Communications team, attending the occasional SIG meeting, and ad hoc duties). They do NOT need to attend every SIG meeting, although they ideally would visit each SIG at least once a year. You’d also attend the 2014-2015 planning retreat on Sunday, June 8, 2014 (1-6pm in Raleigh).
